Why Running a Race is Like Running a Business: Have a Goal

Posted by Katherine L. Taylor, Attorney and CPA, Chief Problem SolverSep 23, 20200 Comments

I didn't get to prepare well for this post, because I had to go for a run. I have a goal to run a half-marathon in October. While I was running, I started thinking, and I came to the realization that running a business is a lot like running a race.

The main overarching similarity is that you need to have goals. You can have big goals, small goals, short-term, long-term goals. Your goals can be based on an amount of revenue. You can have lifestyle goals. You can have goals based on the number of widgets you sell or the amount of VC funding you bring in.

But without those goals, you can't get to where you want to be. My goal is to run this race in October; I did a training run this morning and hopefully, I'm going to get to where I want to be. So go out and set your own goals so you can get to where you want to be in your business.
